Passenger numbers on Russian Railways network increased by almost 4,7% January to June 2019

According to the latest figures, 106.9 million passengers were transported on the infrastructure of Russian Railways in June 2019, 2.4% more than in the same month last year. Suburban commuter passengers amounted to 95.3 million, an increase of 2.2% compared to June 2018, while long-distance passenger numbers were up to 11.6 million, a jump of 4.8%.

Passenger turnover in  2019 amounted to 13.4 billion pass-km, which is 0.7% more than in the same period of 2018. Suburban traffic passenger turnover amounted to 3.1 billion pass-km, up by 2.3%, while long-distance turnover jumped to 10.3 billion pass-km, an increase of 0.2%.

A total of 573.8 million passengers travelled between January and June 2019, an increase of 4.7% compared to January-June 2018. Long-distance passengers amounted to 52.7 million, a rise of 6.4% on the same 6 months last year. Suburban commuters were up to 521.1 million, an increase of 4.5%.

Passenger turnover on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 3.4% since the beginning of 2019 compared to the same period last year and amounted to 57.9 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover rose to 16.3 billion pass-km, an increase of 5.1%, while long-distance turnover rose to 41.6 billion pass-km, up 2.8%.

In January-Jene 2019, the Moscow Central Ring (MCC) carried almost 69.7 million passengers, a jump of 15%. 

Since the MCC began operations, the service has carried 336.7 million passengers.

A record number of people travelled on the MCC on 3 April 2019, when 561 956 passengers were transported.
