Freight loading volumes for export via ports increased by 3.2% in January-May 2019
Loading on the railways of OJSC Russian Railways for export via Russia’s seaports in January-May 2019 increased by 3.2% compared to the same period in 2018 and exceeded 132.5 million tons due to an increase in coal loading of 11.4%, of oil by 3.4% and ores by 15.8%.
Coal made up 49.5% of the total export freight traffic, followed by oil, 26.5%, ferrous metals, 7.4%, and fertilizer 6.3%.
According to the results from the five months from January to May, export cargo handling at Russia’s ports in the North-West region exceeded 54.3 million tons, an increase of 1.2% compared to the same period in 2018. More than 31.1 million tons were dispatched to Russia’s ports in the south of the country, a rise of 0.9% on January to May 2018. Handling at Russia’s ports in the Far East region amounted to more than 43.1 million tons, up by 6.7% on the same period in 2018.
