Passenger numbers on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 3.8% in April 2019

According to the latest figures, the infrastructure of Russian Railways carried almost 96.5 million passengers in April 2019, 3.8% more than during April last year. Suburban passenger numbers amounted to 88.4 million, an increase of 4% compared to April 2018, while long-distance passengers rose 1.6% to 8.1 million.

Passenger turnover in April 2019 was 8.9 billion passenger-kilometres, 1.2% more than in April 2018. Suburban passenger numbers rose 2.9% and amounted to 2.6 billion pass-kilometres, while long-distance passengers rose to 6.3 billion pass-km, an increase of 0.5%.

From January to April 2019, a total of 359.6 million passengers travelled, up 4.7% compared to the same four-month period in 2018. Long-distance passengers were up 4.8% to 31.4 million, while suburban passenger numbers amounted to 328.2 million, an increase of 4.7%.

Since the beginning of 2019, passenger turnover on the Russian Railways network has increased by 2.9% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 33.8 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover in January-April amounted to 10 billion pass-km, an increase of 4.9% on the same four-month period in 2018, while long-distance passenger turnover was up 2.1% to 23.8 billion pass-km.

From the start of 2019, the Moscow Central Ring (MCR) carried more than 46.3 million passengers, which is 17.6% more than during the same period last year. Since the Moscow Central Ring began operations on 10 September 2016, nearly 313.3 million passengers have used its services. The record number of passengers on the MCR was recorded on 3 April 2019, when 561,956 people travelled.
