Passenger turnover on network owned by Russian Railways increased by 3.5% in IQ 2019

 

 

According to the latest figures, in March 2019, the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways carried 93 million passengers, 5.1% more than during the same month last year. Suburban passenger numbers rose to 84.8 million, an increase of 4.7%, while long-distance passengers jumped by 9.4% to 8.2 million.

Passenger turnover in March 2019 amounted to 8.5 billion passenger-kilometres, 3.5% more than during the comparable month in 2018. Suburban passenger turnover rose to 2.5 billion pass-km, an increase of 4%. Long-distance turnover reached 6 billion pass-km, a rise of 3.3%.

A total of 259.2 million passengers were carried in January-March 2019, up 3.5% compared to January-March 2018. Long-distance passengers amounted to 23.4 million, an increase of 6.5%, while suburban passenger numbers rose to 235.8 million, up by 3.3%.

Passenger traffic on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 2.7% since the beginning of 2019 compared to last year and amounted to 24.7 billion pass-kilometres. Suburban passenger turnover during January-March amounted to 7.2 billion passenger-kilometres, a rise of 3.3% on the first quarter last year, while long-distance turnover rose to 17.5 billion passenger-kilometres, up 2.5%.

In March 2019, the Moscow Central Ring (MCC) carried 12.1 million passengers, 17.5% more than in March 2018. Since the beginning of 2019, the MCC has transported 33 million passengers, 15.4% more than during the same three months last year.

Since the Moscow Central Ring began operations, its services have been used by 299.9 million passengers.

The MCC achieved a record number of passengers since its opening on 20 February 2019, when 523,740 people travelled.
