Russia’s State Duma Committee on Transport and Construction holds expanded visiting session at Russian Railways for first time
On 12 March 2019, the State Duma Committee on Transport and Construction chaired by Yevgeny Moskvichev held an expanded visiting session at the head office of Russian Railways in Moscow.
In his welcoming speech, Oleg Belozerov, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, stressed that the Committee’s meeting was being held for the first time at Russian Railways.
Belozerov thanked the Duma’s deputies for their fruitful cooperation last year and noted that the Company had turned in decent results in 2018 thanks in large part to the well-thought-out and timely decisions on the regulatory framework. In this regard, he mentioned in particular the introduction of the norm on the sale of non-returnable tickets for long-distance trains and amendments to the federal laws "On Road Safety" and "On Roads and Driving Activities" in terms of clarifying the issues around the equipment for level crossings using photo and video recording. The draft law "On Amending Article 97 of the Railway Transport Charter" also received support.
Oleg Belozerov expressed his great appreciation for the prompt interaction with the deputies through the appeal mechanism. According to the Company head, 290 requests were received in 2018, including 43 from members of the Committee. In 2019, about 80 submissions were received, covering a broad range of issues: the quality of passenger transportation services, the construction of new railways, pedestrian crossings and overpasses, land and property relations, environmental questions and the provision of social guarantees to employees, as well as increased speeds and reduced delivery times.
"Such a mechanism for our interaction is very important to us. We examine each submission in detail until we find a solution," said Oleg Belozerov.
