Russian Railways is interested in the development of industrial clusters
Alexander Misharin, First Deputy Managing Director of OJSC Russian Railways has expressed the Company’s interest in the development of industrial clusters.
Misharin was speaking at the session "Industrial Clusters. How to Increase the Investment Attractiveness of The Regions," which was held at the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi on 14 February 2019.
According to the First Deputy Managing Director, the Company was directly involved in supporting the industry of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
"We are a large consumer and user. In 2017, Russian Railways purchased industrial products worth about 643 billion roubles. In 2018, this figure rose to about 760 billion roubles," said Misharin. "Volumes are growing by 15% annually."
During the session, Alexander Misharin noted that in the face of fierce competition, Russian Railways today is a participant in the production logistics chains and that the Company integrates its transportation services into the business processes of enterprises.
This consists of a comprehensive and individual range of services, from long-term production planning, raw material deliveries, warehousing and in-plant transport infrastructure through loading and unloading operations to the organisation of regular shipments of finished products and cooperation with stevedores.
According to Misharin, the population’s mobility is crucial in the development of industrial centres. Today, there is a steady positive trend in all transportation segments, but the growth of passenger traffic in new segments is especially indicative. As the First Deputy Managing Director noted, in developing the transport infrastructure in any region, Russian Railways was creating the groundwork for the development of industrial clusters.
