Export freight shipments via Russia’s ports increased by 4.5% in 2018

Loading volumes shipped to the country’s seaports for export on the railways of OJSC Russian Railways in 2018 increased by 4.5% compared to 2017, reaching 306.5 million tons.

The increase was led by a rise in coal loading of 3.6%, in ferrous metals of 8, 3%, in fertilisers of 2.1%, in grain of 25.5%, in paper of 11.7% and in timber of 15.6%.

Coal accounted for 46.6% of the freight exported, followed by oil (26.1%), ferrous metals (8.9%), fertilisers (6.7%) and grain (3.7%).

In 2018, the total volume of export freight handled at Russia’s North-West ports amounted to about 130.9 million tons, an increase of 5.7% compared to 2017. Handling at Russia’s ports in the south amounted to more than 76.4 million tons, which was up by 0.6% on the previous year, while Russia’s Far East ports saw an increase of 6% on the previous year, which took freight volumes up to about 99 million tons.
