RZD Holding tests Trans-Sib multimodal freight delivery route from Japan to Russia

The RZD Holding has started to carry out a number of multimodal test shipments from Japan to Russia along the Trans-Siberian Railway.

The project is being implemented in accordance with agreements concluded between Russian Railways and Japan’s Ministry of Transport to increase the supply of Japanese goods using a multimodal route through Russia’s Far Eastern ports and along the Trans-Siberian Railway.

The shipments are made in containers fitted with temperature, humidity and vibration sensors.

On 17 August 2018, JSC RZD Logistics, a subsidiary of Russian Railways and part of the RZD Holding, dispatched a 40-foot container by direct freight from the port of Kobe in Japan to the port of Vostochny in Russia’s Primorsky Krai.

From there, the container was loaded onto a platform and shipped as part of an accelerated container train by timetable as part of the project "Trans-Sib in 7 days."

The container will then be transported by rail in internal customs transit mode to Vorsino station in Russia’s Kaluga region, from where it will be delivered by road to the consignee’s warehouse in the city of Khimki in the Moscow region following the customs clearance procedure.

The approximate delivery date is 1 September 2018, which will result in a total travel time of just 14 days.

The delivery by rail is being carried out jointly with PJSC TransContainer.

The next test shipment from Japan to Russia along the Trans-Siberian Railway is scheduled for 31 August 2018.

A 20-foot container will be dispatched from the port of Yokohama to Silikatnaya station, its final destination in the Moscow Regionm, via the Russian Pacific port of Vladivostok.

A ceremony will be held at the port of Yokohama on 29 August to mark the dispatch of the test container with the support of Japan’s Ministry of Transport.
