Container traffic on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 16% in January-July 2018
In July 2018, 381,400 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit containers (TEUs) were transported on the network of Russian Railways on all types of routes, 16% more than in July 2017.
In January-July 2018, the volume of transportation amounted to 2.45 million TEUs, an increase of 12.5% compared to the same period last year.
On domestic routes, about 1.1 million TEUs were shipped in the first seven months, a rise of 3.9%, while transit freight in containers amounted to 271,500 TEUs, up by 26.2%, export freight rose to 641,500 TEUs, an increase of 18.5%, while import freight stood at 474,600 TEUs, a jump of 19.2%.
The transportation of loaded containers on all types of route increased by 12.9% in January-July 2018 compared to the same period in 2017 and amounted to 1.65 million TEUs with over 23.2 million tons of freight carried, an increase of 11%, including:
- chemicals and soda – 278,800 TEUs (+8,5%);
- timber – 207,500 TEUs (+35,7%);
- paper – 179,900 TEUs (+8,6%);
- industrial goods – 146,900 TEUs (+8,2%);
- metal goods – 145,900 TEUs (+13,9%);
- cars – 119,700 TEUs (+28,3%);
- machines, machine tools, engines – 118,800 TEUs (+22,3%);
- ferrous metals – 68,500 TEUs (+15,3%);
- non-ferrous metals – 61,800 TEUs (-2,8%);
- construction materials – 55,800 TEUs (+12,9%);
- chemical and mineral fertilisers – 27,300 TEUs (-12,2%).
