Anatoly Krasnoshchek: “Railway staff will ensure effective passenger transportation during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™”

Anatoly Krasnoshchek, First Deputy Managing Director at Russian Railways, has held a session of the Company’s Emergency Operations Centre on organising transportation during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.

Representatives from the Company’s passenger and infrastructure blocks took part in session.

Krasnoshchek noted that railway staff have to ensure the uninterrupted and safe movement of both long distance and suburban trains on routes between the cities hosting the football games.

All the necessary preparatory measures have been completed in order to ensure frictionless travel.

From 10 June to 17 July 2018, the Company will operate on a regime of maximum preparedness, which assumes clear and uninterrupted operation of all services and the fastest possible response to any unusual developments.

Beginning on 12 June, additional long-distance passenger trains will be launched for fans on 31 routes between the 11 cities hosting the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.

In total, 75 additional trains will be providing free transportation for soccer fans.

To ensure passengers receive excellent service under the tighter requirements regarding transport security, 36 railway stations have been prepared.

The infrastructure of the suburban passenger complex has also been readied, including the commissioning of the Volgograd-Gumrak Airport railway station, as a result of which a suburban electric train now connects Volgograd airport to the city centre.

Over 800 electric trains will provide suburban links in the 11 cities hosting the matches, including Lastochka trains on routes in Yekaterinburg, Kaliningrad and Sochi.
