Loading of grain for export on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 85% January-May 2018

Loading of grain in January-May 2018 on the network owned by Russian Railways exceeded 12.3 million tons, 51.7% more than in the same period in 2017. At the same time, more than 7.8 million tons of grain were shipped for export, an increase of 85%.

The main regions in terms of grain loading during January to May were the oblasts of Saratov (1.14 million tons, an increase by a factor of 2.7), Kursk (956,500 tons, up 42.2%), Tambov (866,100 tons, up 96.8%) and Volgograd (859,900 tons, an increase of 2.3 times).

The biggest increases in loading volumes in the first five months of 2018 were recorded in fertile regions such as the oblasts of Samara (up by a factor of 3.2 to 336,000 tons), Novosibirsk (up by a factor of 3 to 346,400 tons), Orenburg (an increase of 2.8 times to 512,400 tons), Ulyanovsk (an increase of 2.7 to 169,100 tons) and Penza (up by a factor of 2.3 to 458,200 tons).

In order to attract additional freight volumes, the Company’s Board decided to set a reduction factor of 0.897, which is equivalent to a 10.3% discount, on tariffs for grain exports from stations located in the Voronezh, Orel, Tambov, Orenburg, Saratov, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Kursk, Lipetsk, Penza, Samara, Ulyanovsk and Kurgan oblasts through Russian ports when transported on its own rolling stock and containers.

Falling under the discount are wheat, rye, oats, barley, corn, rice, buckwheat, beans, peas, beans and other grains. The discount will apply until 30 June 2018 inclusive.
