Meeting on preparations for passenger transportation during 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ held in Sochi

A meeting has been held in Sochi to discuss the ongoing preparations for passenger transportation during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.

During the meeting, the issues of organising large-scale transportation for the domestic and visiting football fans were discussed, including the approval of logistics processes, preparing the rolling stock, training personnel and preparing the transport infrastructure.

“The World Cup and the organisation of fan transportation is not just one of the most difficult tasks that you and I have to solve together,” said the CEO and Chairman of the Board of OJSC Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov. “It sets a new benchmark for the whole railway passenger complex as a whole. Summer is always a period of very high demand in general and especially the services to the regions around the Black Sea coast. All the increased requirements for the transportation of those involved in the championship as participants and guests should be extended automatically to regular passenger transportation.”

“We are completing the final preparations before the most important event in recent years. We have to ensure the highest level of comfort and safety for each guest who will come to our country in order to cheer on her team,” said Peter Ivanov, the Managing Director of the Federal Passenger Company, a subsidiary of OJSC Russian Railways. “We need to ensure that all the personnel, from the train crew, to the restaurant car staff, guards and translators, work in harmony with each other on every single train.”

According to forecasts, more than 2.5 million passengers will use on long-distance trains on services during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ between the cities hosting the tournament’s games.

To ensure free transportation for both fans and representatives of the media accredited by FIFA, 728 additional trains with more than 440,000 seats or berths will be laid on.

The comfort and safety of guests will be ensured en route by 99 train brigades marked with a special “sign of quality” serving as “passports of trust” which they received for unconditionally fulfilling their official duties and receiving no complaints from passengers.

The Company also plans to bring in 244 translators who will work on the additional trains and assist foreign passengers in communicating with the staff.

The approved logistics plan envisages that trains that will transport the football fans to the matches in between the days of the matches will ensure stable passenger transportation through regular services.

It is already planned that these trains will make over 130 additional runs in various directions.
