More than 2,000 volunteers will be on duty at Russia’s railway stations during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™

At 31 railway stations owned by OJSC Russian Railways in the 11 cities hosting 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, more than 2,000 city volunteers will be available to help fans during the competition.

Their main tasks will be to assist passengers to board and disembark from the trains, provide support to low-mobility passengers and generally help at the railway stations.

Many of the city volunteers previously helped at the stations last year as part of the FIFA 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.

The largest contingent, numbering more than 1,000 volunteers, will be deployed at Moscow’s train stations, where the bulk of passengers and fans will be concentrated.

At the stations, both stationary and mobile information desks will be installed and manned by the city volunteers.

The number of volunteers at each station was determined in accordance with the experience gained in previous years and after taking into account the number of trains operating to transport the fans.

All city volunteers will undergo special training which will include an international protocol, a volunteer code and case studies of past international sporting events. All city volunteers speak one or more foreign languages.

The main task of the volunteers will be to serve as assistants to the station’s line staff. The final stage in training the volunteers will therefore be to get acquainted with the railway infrastructure and its employees.
