Freight loading for export via Russia’s ports increased by 4.6% in first quarter 2018

This year has witnessed a steady growth in the volume of freight exported through Russia’s ports.

Loading volumes destined for seaports in the first three months of 2018 increased by 4.6% compared to the figure in January-March 2017 and reached 76.8 million tons.

The main increases came from coal loading by 4.5%, ferrous metals by 5.8%, fertilisers by 12.3%, grain by 44.4%, paper by 5.1% and timber by 18.3%.

Coal accounted for 44.2% of the export freight, followed by oil at 28%, ferrous metals at 9.4%, fertilisers at 6.7% and grain at 4%.

The total loading volume of export freight shipped to Russia’s North-West ports during January-March amounted to about 33.3 million tons, 12.3% more than in the same period in 2017. Russia’s southern ports received 19.3 million tons, down 3.7%, but the loading volume shipped to the ports in Russia’s Far East amounted to about 24.2 million tons, an increase of 2.3%
