Almost 1.2 million passengers travelled on long-distance trains during the March holidays
During the holiday period from 7 to 11 March 2018, more than 1,197,000 passengers travelled on long-distance trains operated by the Federal Passenger Company, a subsidiary of OJSC Russian Railways.
Compared to the same period in 2016, when the celebrations for International Women's Day also fell in the middle of the week, the number of passengers carried increased by almost 23%.
On individual holiday days, passenger traffic on long-distance trains was up to 1.5 times more than in 2016. On 10 March, for example, more than 234,000 passengers used Federal Passenger Company trains, while on 11 March more than 312,000 passengers travelled.
To meet the increased demand for rail services, more than 100 additional trains were laid on across the whole network of Russian railways, three times more than the number of scheduled services in 2016.
The Federal Passenger Company not only ensured stable passenger operations during the holidays, but also congratulated all the women and girls who travelled on the company's trains on 8 March. The train staff presented them with sweets in honour of International Woman's Day.
All participants in the RZD Bonus programme received congratulations on the advent of Spring and will receive 500 bonus points on their personal account within the month.
The Federal Passenger Company also provided passengers with affordable fares when travelling during the holidays. Individual seats in couchette cars could be purchased in advance at a 30% discount. In addition, every day from 7 to 11 March, passengers could take advantage of separate special offers for their future trips in compartments and carriages with seats.
