Passenger traffic on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 5.4% in February 2018

According to the latest figures, in February 2018 80.7 million passengers were transported on the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways, 5.4% more than in February 2017. Suburban passenger numbers amounted to 74.3 million, an increase of 5.4%, while long-distance passengers increased to 6.3 million, a rise of 5.5%.

Passenger turnover in February 2018 amounted to 7 billion passenger-kilometres, which is 3% more than during the same month in 2017. Suburban passenger turnover rose to 2.2 billion passenger-km, an increase of 3.1%, while long-distance passenger turnover increased to 4.8 billion passenger-km, up 3%.

During January-February 2018, 161.8 million passengers travelled on the Russian Railways’ network, 5.1% more than in January-February 2017. Long-distance passenger numbers were up 6.4% to 14.5 million, while suburban passengers increased to 147.3 million, a rise of 4.9%.

Passenger turnover on the network of Russian Railways since the beginning of 2018 increased by 3.7% compared to the level of the previous year and amounted to 15.9 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover in January-February amounted to 4.5 billion passenger-km, an increase of 2.8%, while long-distance passenger turnover stood at 11.4 billion pass-km, up 4.1%.

Since the beginning of 2018, the Moscow Central Ring (MCR) has transported more than 18.4 million passengers, 31.4% more than in the same two months of last year.

In total, have more than 156 million passengers have used the Moscow Central Ring since its launch on 10 September 2016. A record number of passengers on the MCC was reached on 14 December 2017, when 431,300 people travelled.
