Loading volumes on network owned by Russian Railways increased by 3.9% in February 2018

According to the latest figures, freight loading volumes on the network owned by OJSC Russian Railways amounted to 99.8 million tons in February 2018, 3.9% more than in the same month last year.

Freight turnover in February 2018 increased by 3.7% compared to February 2017 and amounted to 196.3 billion tariff ton-km. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs during the same month increased by 3.4% and rose to 251.3 billion ton-km.

According to the latest figures, loading volumes during January-February 2018 amounted to 203.3 million tons, 3.7% more than in the same two months last year.

In January-February 2018, the railways shipped the following categories of freight. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January-February 2017:

  • coal – 60.8 million tons (+1.1%);
  • coke – 1.78 million tons (-1.2%);
  • oil and petroleum products – 39.5 million tons (-2.6%);
  • iron and manganese ores – 17.7 million tons (+4%);
  • ferrous metals – 12.6 million tons (+10.3%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 1.5 million tons (-16.6%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers – 9.97 million tons (+6.4%);
  • cement – 2.7 million tons (+7.3%);
  • timber – 7.1 million tons (+5.5%);
  • grain – 4.5 million tons (+41.5%);
  • construction materials – 18.2 million tons (+9.8%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 3.1 million tons (-1.2%);
  • chemicals and soda – 4.5 million tons (+0.8%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 5,3 million tons (+16,3%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2018 amounted to 411.7 billion tariff ton-kilometres, an increase of 4.8%, while freight turnover including empty wagon runs was 525.7 billion ton-km, up 4.1%.
