“Smart Station” system to ensure comfortable stay for fans at 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ railway stations

The system “Smart Station” will be in operation at 27 stations in the cities holding matches during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.

An automated dispatching centre will facilitate 24/7 monitoring of the Smart Station’s operation of the main systems which provided the stations’ essential services, such as ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, heating and air humidification. This will provide the guests with the most comfortable conditions for their stay at the station, which is especially important in connection with the expected increase in passenger traffic during such a major sporting event.

To date, the Smart Station system has been installed at about 35 railway stations under the Directorate of Railway Stations, a branch of Russian Railways.

At Tyumen, Anapa, Sochi, Adler and Kazan railway stations, five Moscow stations and some others, sensors have been installed that transmit information about the composition and temperature of air and light, as well as motion and water flow sensors.

If there are any deviations from the correct values, the system automatically compensates so that the levels are returned to their correct settings.

Such technologies enable the Company to save resources on the one hand and on the other to exclude the human factor from operational work.

The Smart Station project was first introduced at Anapa railway station more than 10 years ago. Initially, solar panels were installed, which allowed the station complex to save up to 25% on electricity. Later, the accumulated solar energy was used in heat pumps, thus meeting the station’s entire need for heating or cooling. The station has now become practically independent of urban energy carriers due to the use of alternative energy sources made possible by the Smart System.

The Smart Station system will later be implemented at all the railway stations of Russian Railways which have undergone large-scale renovation.
