Volume of export freight shipped to Russian ports increased by 6.4% in 2017

The volume of export freight shipped through Russia’s ports underwent steady growth throughout 2017.

The loading volume transported to the ports increased by 6.4% compared to the level of 2016 andamounted to 293.4 million tons. The increase was due mainly to greater volumes of coal shipments,which increased by 10.6%, fertilisers, which were up 11.8%, grain, which jumped by 52.8%, paper, whichrose 7.2% and timber, which also rose by 7.2%.

Coal accounted for about 47% of the exported freight traffic, oil for 27%, ferrous metals for 9%,fertilisers for 7% and grain for 3%.

Loading of export freight cargoes to the ports in Russia’s North-West region by the end of the yearamounted to about 123.8 million tons, an increase of 10.1% compared to the level of 2016, while 75.9million tons were shipped to Russia’s southern ports, up 6%. Loading to the ports in Russia’s Far Easternregion stood at 93.3 million tons, an increase of 2.6%.
