Alexei Shilo, Director for Commercial Activities at Russian Railways and Managing Director of the Centre for Corporate Transport Services, took part in the panel discussion "Orientation to the Client in the Railway Industry: Realities and Challenges and How to Confront Them," which was held at the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi.

In the course of his speech, Alexey Shilo noted that at present, the Company's work was aimed at increasing customer focus, creating new logistics products and developing modern client services, all of which ultimately contributes to attracting additional freight to the railways.

As Shilo noted, the RZD Holding offers smaller clients services such as booking wagons in train formations, which allows them to take advantage of the technology which enables small consignments to be consolidated on long-distance trains without processing.

In the case of large customers, a "parking service" has been introduced which allows customers to place their rolling stock on the infrastructure of Russian Railways while awaiting the formation of a ship lot and freight trains running to a special timetable with punctual delivery.

"We understand that we live in the age of digital technology, that without it we cannot move forward. We have a service similar to Uber – this year, we launched the electronic trading platform Freight Transportation, through which we provide a comprehensive freight transportation service. We will continue to develop that platform in the future and offer logistics services and integrated terminal-warehouse services," said Alexey Shilo.

According to Shilo, improvements to the service during the first three quarters of 2017 enabled the Company to attract more than 7.5 million tons of additional freight to railway transport, as well as more than 4.55 million tons of cargo through the use of available instruments under the Company’s flexible tariff policy – the "tariff corridor" and the provision of discounts on certain routes.
