"Russian Railways is ready to consider the possibility of freight transportation along
the North - South Corridor at through rates," says Company President Oleg Belozerov
The President of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov has held a working meeting with
the Chairman of CJSC Azerbaijan Railways Javid Gurbanov.
The two men discussed the development of the North - South International Transport
Corridor (ITC), including the route's freight base and the construction project for
the rail stretch between Astara in Azerbaijan and Rasht in Iran.
Oleg Belozerov noted that the development of the North - South ITC is being actively
promoted and that Russian Railways is ready to improve the tariff policy on this route
in order to establish competitive transport conditions and, in particular, to consider
the possibility of transporting freight at through rates.
In September 2016, the first test took place of shipping containers along the North
- South corridor from India to Russia via Iran and Azerbaijan using multimodal transport.
