Russian Railways and Indonesian Railways Co. sign memorandum of understanding

Russian Railways and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Moscow on 7 June 2016.

The memorandum between the public railway companies of Russia and Indonesia was signed by Oleg Belozerov, President of Russian Railways, and Edi Sukmoro, President of PT Kereta Api Indonesia.

The document provides for cooperation between the parties in the field of transport construction, including joint participation in development projects for railway and logistics infrastructure in Russia and Indonesia, cooperation in the field of transport engineering and the exchange of experience and cooperation in the framework of projects to attract private and foreign investment for railway development.

The memorandum also provides for possible cooperation between the parties on scientific and technological cooperation and innovation, including the exchange of scientific and technical information on railway transportation, cooperation in the framework of research projects, the development of standards, technical exchanges and educational activities.

During a meeting with the Indonesian delegation, the President of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov said that the RZD Holding attached great importance to cooperation with Indonesian Railways.

"We would like to combine our capabilities. We see that we can apply our potential in several areas," said Oleg Belozerov.

The President of PT Kereta Api Indonesia Edi Sukmoro said that Indonesian Railways was interested in developing Indonesia's logistics network and expressed confidence that cooperation with Russian Railways would contribute to achieving this goal.

The document is a framework agreement which envisages the creation of a working group that will identify areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.
