Loading on Russian Railways' network amounted to 105.1 m tons in March 2016

According to the latest figures, loading on the network of Russian Railways in March 2016 amounted to 105.1 m tons, 2% more than in March 2015.

Freight turnover in March 2016 decreased by 1.2% compared to March 2015 and amounted to 197.7 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs during the same month fell by 1.7% and amounted to 253.2 billion ton-km.

Loading in January-March 2016, according to the latest figures, amounted to 294 m tons, 0.7% more than in the first quarter of 2015.

In March 2016, the railways loaded the following goods. The figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January-March 2015:

  • coal – 83.3 m tons (+3.8%);
  • coke – 2.7 m tons (-3.1%);
  • petroleum and petroleum products – 61.3 m tons (-7%);
  • iron and manganese ores – 26.5 m tons (-0.4%);
  • ferrous metals – 17.8 m tons (-4.8%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 2.3 m tons (-22%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers – 13.7 m tons (+5.7%);
  • cement – 4.7 m tons (-11.3%);
  • timber – 10.4 m tons (+2.6%);
  • grain – 5 m tons (+7.8%);
  • construction materials – 28.8 m tons (+20.6%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 5.1 m tons (+5.9%);
  • chemicals and soda – 6.5 m tons (+0.9%);
  • industrial feedstock and moulded materials – 6.9 m tons (-4.5%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2016 amounted to 565.7 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 0.5%. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs was 727.3 billion ton-km, up 0.3%.
