Commission on Wagon Sector of Railway Transport Council of CIS States meets in Saratov
The 61st session of the Committee of the Wagon Sector at the Railway Transport Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held at the sanatorium Volga Dali in the Saratov region on 22-24 March 2016.
The session was attended by Alexey Sakeev, head of the Wagon Sector at the Central Infrastructure Directorate at Russian Railways, Vasily Zelenkov, Deputy Chairman of the Council Directorate and Alexander Lukyanov, head of the deaprtement of Rolling Stock and Safety at the Council Directorate, as well as representatives from railway companies and other enterprises in Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Georgia.
The meeting discussed the main issues in operating freight cars on the rail networks of the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States in accordance with a single piece of technical documentation.
"Over the three days we met, we considered 57 very important questions. The bulk of these deals with changes in operating conditions and the modernisation of freight wagons. Such decisions are made by the Commission because all freight wagons are used in international traffic. A single and unified piece of technical documentation is needed. Thanks to the discussion, we were able to arrive at the right decisions and reach compromises on key issues," said Vasily Zelenkov, Deputy Chairman of the Council Directorate.
The CIS Railway Transport Council was established in 1992 with the aim of coordinating railway transport at the international level and developing agreed operating principles.
Since its foundation, the Council's Chairman used to be the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, but nowadays the post is held by the President of Russian Railways.
