"It is necessary to increase customers trust and improve service quality," says President of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov

Oleg Belozerov, the President of Russian Railways, summed up the Company's work in January 2016 during a conference call made on 9 February 2016.

Belozerov paid particular attention to the passenger complex. He noted that Russian Railways continues to interact closely with the public via its website, which receives mail from across the country, including on the quality of passenger service.

"I personally read all the messages, am aware of all the problems, and I bring them to the attention of the Board Members at each operational meeting. If I am given reports that our suburban trains run on time, and that all trains are warm and clean, but passengers continue to write about delays and cold carriages, I make my own conclusions. Passengers must be sure that their messages will be considered and processed most effectively not only on paper, but also in practice. Yes, this is not an easy job, but it is within our reach," said Oleg Belozerov.

Summing up the results on the freight side, the Company President said that tariff freight turnover in January 2016 decreased by 3% compared to January 2015, while the average daily loading volume was 3.024 million tons, which is 2.9% lower than in January 2015. Nevertheless, in general, the operational work indicators were met.

The block-to-block speed of container trains amounted to 965 km per day, which is 13 km per day or 1.4% more than in the same month last year, while faster container trains covered 1,211 km per day, the same level reached in January 2015.

Oleg Belozerov noted that at a time when traffic volumes are falling, it was necessary to increase the customer trust and improve service quality, as well as become more predictable and transparent.

"I ask you to work on these issues on a daily basis at the local level in close cooperation with shippers and operators," he said.

According to Belozerov, the Company is currently conducting thorough work on issues involving the flexible tariff policy and attracting more freight customers.

"If we want to ensure the Company's uninterrupted operation, we not only need to adapt to the new economic reality, but use it to improve. It is important to remember that Russian Railways is a unique institution in the Russian economy and a major partner of the state in terms of lifting the economy out of stagnation and moving it onto a growth trajectory," said Oleg Belozerov.
