Russian Railways to provide transport services on Small Ring at Moscow Railways

RU EN

Russian Railways, Open Joint Stock Company [OJSC] Central PPK and State Unitary Enterprise [SUE] Moscow Metro have concluded an agreement to transfer the rights and obligations under the contract to provide transport services on the Small Ring of Moscow Railways - Russian Railways. This decision was made after multilateral consultations with the Government of Moscow.

The transport services for passengers on the Small Ring of Moscow Railways will be carried out by the Directorate of High-Speed Communications, a branch of Russian Railways, using Lastochka electric trains based at the Podmoscovnaya depot.

As the carrier, Russian Railways will provide passengers using the Small Ring comprehensive and the most comfortable services, reduce the cost of transport services and make the most efficient use possible of modern rolling stock manufactured by Russia.

Lastochka trains meet all current international standards.

Carriages without vestibules enable passengers to board and leave the train quickly and conveniently, which is particular important on intracity routes. The large interior space of the new trains means that people with limited mobility and passengers with prams, bicycles and luggage will feel especially comfortable. The climate control system makes for an agreeable temperature all the year round.

The new passenger infrastructure and payment system will be integrated into the urban public transport system. Fares will be determined by the Government of Moscow.

Traffic on the Small Ring of Moscow Railways will reach 130 pairs of trains per day, with a minimum interval from 6 minutes. The Ring will have 31 stops. According to estimates, by 2025 more than 300 million people will be using the line every year.
