Passenger numbers on Sapsan trains up 16.4% in 2015

RU EN

In 2015, high-speed Sapsan services carried about 4 million passengers, 16.4% more than in 2014. Since beginning operations, Sapsan trains have transported about 18 million passengers.

The increase in the number of passengers carried by the Sapsans was due to the increased frequency of the service, as well as the use of double-formation trains with twice the number of carriages, a flexible fare policy, marketing campaigns and events, and individual discounts tied to personalised road maps etc.

The Sapsan now accounts for more than half of the passenger traffic on the St. Petersburg - Moscow line. Capacity utilisation is close to 100%, including passengers boarding the train at intermediate stations.

In order to meet the demand and increase the line's carrying capacity without laying on additional trains, double-formation trains have been introduced.

As a result, 11 pairs of Sapsan trains now run every day, including two pairs of double-formation trains.
