President of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov and President of VR Group Ltd Mikael Aro discuss rail passenger traffic between Finland and Russia
The President of Russian Railways, Oleg Belozerov, and the President of VR-Group Ltd., Mikael Aro, have made a working trip from Helsinki to St. Petersburg on the express Allegro service linking the two cities.
The trip was timed to coincide with the 5th anniversary of the project on high-speed links between Russia and Finland and took place on 11 December 2015.
Oleg Belozerov and Mikael Aro discussed a wide range of steps to increase passenger traffic between Russia and Finland, as well as measures on pricing, marketing and the service on passenger trains.
Belozerov said that much has been achieved during the 5 years of their joint cooperation: travel time between St. Petersburg and Helsinki has been reduced, customs and border operations are much faster than previously and a total of some 2 million passengers have been transported.
"At the same time, we will continue to reduce train travelling time to improve comfort," said Oleg Belozerov. "We have also considered our pricing policy and agreed that we will work to reduce costs, which will help cut fares and thus make the journey more accessible to greater numbers of passengers."
Mikael Aro for his part expressed a readiness to assist in reducing train travel time.
"We are very proud of this project and will continue to develop its technology and innovation," said the president of the VR-Group Ltd.
