Strizh transports half a million passengers
A ceremony was held at Kursk Station in Moscow 11 November 2015 to meet the 500,000th passenger to travel between Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod on the high-speed Strizh train
The jubilee passenger was 8-year-old Anastasia Porokhnya, who was travelling from Nizhny Novgorod to Moscow with her parents.
Mikhail Akulov, Vice President of Russian Railways and Managing Director of the Federal Passenger Company, congratulated Anastasia and presented her with several gifts. In honour of the event, the Federal Passenger Company also awarded Nastia and her parents cards showing their new membership in the RZD Bonus loyalty programme, a certificate for a free return journey on the Strizh train for the whole family, a certificate for a free weekend at the Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya, a partner hotel of the loyalty programme, and other souvenirs.
Akulov said that today, passengers on the Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod service are actively choosing to travel by the Strizh train.
"The launch of the Strizh service allowed us to create a good high-speed transport system between Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod, which also includes the Lastochka train," said Akulov. "In general, since last June, theses high-speed trains have carried more than a million passengers and thus exceeded the annual volume of people travelling by air on the Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod route. "
During the event, Akulov also recalled that in mid-2016, the Federal Passenger Company launched the Strizh train, which is equipped with an automatic mechanism for changing the width or gauge of the wheelset on the Moscow - Minsk - Warsaw - Berlin route to enable travel on both the broad gauge 1520mm Russian track and the narrow gauge 1420 mm European lines. The new, comfortable high-speed train will cover the distance between the two cities in less than 20 hours. Work on the certification of the rolling stock in Europe is currently under way.
The Strizh service began on 1 June, 2015.
