President of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov meets head of China's Liaoning Province
Moscow hosted a working meeting between Oleg Belozerov, President of Russian Railways, and Li Xi, the head of Liaoning Province in China and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China in Liaoning Province. The meeting took place on 9 November 2015.
The main topic on the agenda was a discussion on cooperation within the framework of a memorandum of intent between Russian Railways and the Yingkou Port group of companies. In particular, the parties discussed the prospects of creating a Russian-Chinese logistics centre in the Moscow region, the establishment of a joint operating platform and the development of a Sino-Russian logistics park at the port of Yingkou.
Oleg Belozerov focused attention on the prospects for trade between Russia and China: the leaders of the two countries have undertaken to increase foreign trade from the current level of USD87 billion to USD200 billion by 2020. A special place has been assigned to transport and logistics.
"Transport is one of the main directions of mutual cooperation between our two countries," said Oleg Belozerov. "The level of development in this area will largely set the parameters of foreign trade. Logistics is therefore now acquiring increasing importance for the economies of both Russia and China and for the global economy as a whole. In this regard, our joint logistics projects have become landmark developments."
Li Xi emphasised the importance of cooperation between China and Russia in the field of transport and logistics for the province of Liaoning, in particular for the revival of industry in north-east China, as well as part of the link-up between the projects of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Economic Belt of the Silk Road stretching all the way from China's northeastern provinces and the Far East to Europe via Russia.
