Railways managers from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Estonia sign agreement on cooperation on environmental protection

RU EN

Railway administrations of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Estonia have signed an agreement to cooperate on environmental protection.

The signing ceremony took place in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent on 5 November during the 63rd meeting of the Council for Rail Transport of CIS countries. The document was signed by Oleg Belozerov, President of Russian Railways.

"I am sure that for the railway companies which are members of the Council, saving resources and protecting the environment will always be one of the most important areas for cooperation," said the head of Russian Railways.

According to the document, the parties intend to develop cooperation on the coordination of environmental activities in rail transport. It is also planned to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the environmental consequences of economic and other activities, develop common approaches to natural resource management and prevent natural and man-made accidents.

The parties have agreed on an ongoing basis to share their experience in the development and use of new machinery and equipment for environmental protection and to develop and implement a coordinated scientific and technical policy on environmental protection.

It was decided to establish an International Centre for Environmental Protection in Railway Transport in order to implement the agreement.

A draft agreement on cooperation in the field of environmental protection in railway transport has been prepared by experts at Russian Railways and submitted to all members of the Council for Rail Transport.

Any railway company will be able to accede to the agreement in the future.
