RZD Holding to buy new double-decker carriages

The Federal Passenger Company, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, is to acquire 34 new double-decker sleeper carriages for the Samara - Moscow service.

The carriages will be purchased using loans. Following tender procedures, the Federal Passenger Company signed a contract with OJSC VTB Bank for the provision of long-term loan funds for the project. The loan amount was set at 2.5 billion roubles and the loan term at 7 years.

The project to purchase this double-decker passenger rolling stock was unanimously approved by the members of the Inter-Ministerial Commission for the Selection of Investment Projects under the chairmanship of Alexei Ulyukayev, Russia's Minister of Economic Development. It is thus included in the register of investment projects selected for participation in the support programme based on project financing, whose procedures were approved by Government Decree No. 1044 of the Russian Federation issued on 11 October 2014.

The double-decker train No. 50/49 Moscow - Samara will make its first journey on 3 December 2015. Tickets are already on sale.
