First track sections to be renovated with digital and satellite technology commissioned on railway network of Russian Railways

RU EN

Russian Railways is implementing innovative methods to upgrade railway lines using Russia's GLONASS high-precision satellite positioning technology and digital modelleing of the track.

To date, 28 kilometres of railway track have been renovated using satellite technology at three railway divisions: Southeast Railways, October Railways and Moscow Railways. The work is being carried out on the Kantemirovka - Gartmashevka stretch (4.1 km), between Spirovo - Kalashnikov (18.1 km) and on the Vyazma - Semlevo stretch (5.8 km).

Before the end of 2015, repairs will also be completed using these innovative methods on the stretches between Krekshino - Aprelevka - Selyatino and Lesok - Listvyanka - Perevles at Moscow Railways and between Vishny Volochek - Elizarovka at October Railways.

In addition, work is continuing on installing software and hardware for controlling track technology at the Moscow, the North Caucasus and Southeast Directorates for Track Repair.

The use of a high-precision coordinate system of spatial data and technology to implement repair and track work using satellite navigation systems can automate the production process and precisely control the execution of design solutions at all stages of the works by creating a digital model of the existing line.
