Russian Railways provided transportation for participants and visitors during Russian Grand Prix in Sochi

During the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi, which was held in Sochi on Sunday, 11 October 2015, Russian Railways transported 165,011 passengers from 8 to 11 October 2015. Maximum passenger numbers were recorded on 11 October, when 61,939 people travelled.

To ensure the continuous and comfortable transportation of participants and visitors during the Russian Grand Prix, for the period from 8 to 11 October 2015 Russian Railways developed a special timetable for Lastochka trains and laid on 247 pairs of trains which made 494 journeys.

Passenger transportation was provided by 18 Lastochka electric train units consisting of 10 trains with five carriages and 4 trains with double the number of carriages, making 8 in all.

The timetable developed by the Company provided for five main railway routes. On 8 and 9 October 2015, 46 pairs of Lastochka electric trains ran as follows:

  • Sochi - Olympic Park (25 pairs of trains);
  • Sochi - Airport (6 pairs of trains);
  • Sochi - Rosa Khutor (6 pairs of trains);
  • Airport - Olympic Park (6 pairs of trains);
  • Rosa Khutor - Olympic Park (3 pairs of trains).

The Company increased to the number of trains to 77.5 pairs on the two days of peak demand on 10 and 11 October 2015, much more than the 20 pairs of trains which run normally:

  • Sochi - Olympic Park (49.5 pairs of trains);
  • Sochi - Airport (8.5 pairs of trains);
  • Sochi - Rosa Khutor (6 pairs of trains);
  • Airport - Olympic Park (10.5 pairs of trains);
  • Rosa Khutor - Olympic Park (3 pairs of trains).

During the four days that the F1 teams were in Sochi, the Company kept open the turnstiles at the Sochi, Matsesta, Khosta, Adler, Olympic Park, Olympic Village, Airport, Esto-Sadok and Roza Khutor railway stations on the above routes.

On the ​​Sochi - Tuapse stretch, passengers could buy tickets at ticket offices and ticket machines in line with the established procedures at the current fares. Additional ticket offices were also opened at Tuapse, Loo, Lazarevskoe and Sochi stations. The number of travelling ticket cashiers was increased on trains and at turnstiles.

Passengers were informed about changes to the timetable and travel conditions at stations in the Sochi region over the public address system. Russian Railways also posted passenger transport information in the Sochi region on the Company's official website.
