Oleg Belozerov makes working visit to Far Eastern Railways

Oleg Belozerov, President of Russian Railways, paid a working visit to Far Eastern Railways on 5 September 2015, where he became acquainted with the work of Khabarovsk-1, one of the largest railway station complexes in the Far East. He also visited the Amur bridge and travelled through the tunnel under the Amur River, which is the longest underwater tunnel in Russia.

During his visit, Oleg Belozerov met the management of Far Eastern Railways and discussed its most important areas of activity, especially the implementation of performance indicators, traffic safety, passenger transportation, the social protection of railway workers and staffing issues.

"In the present situation, working just for the sake of work is pointless. Every action we undertake should lead to greater efficiency. This applies to every part of the Company. I ask you to pay attention to everything, from those involved in actual operations to our own construction workers. Technical, logistical and other decisions and solutions - all that should be directed towards ensuring that we are conducting our business better," said Oleg Belozerov.

The Company President presented a valuable gift to Vyacheslav Filippov, a fitter on the Ussuri stretch at the Far Eastern Infrastructure Directorate, for his hard work, vigilance and responsiveness to ensure safety during the typhoon Goni, while the head of Far Eastern Railways Mikhail Zaichenko awarded him a watch engraved with his name.

"Far Eastern Railways is interesting and unusual. While everyone else is now saying that they are experiencing problems with freight volumes, you are seeing traffic increases this year, so it is necessary to increase through capacity accordingly. Although there are problems, for example, with passenger transportation, the results nevertheless show that you have a good team with the ability to work and cope with the challenges that are facing Far Eastern Railways," said the Company President.

Another meeting under the chairmanship of Oleg Belozerov held at the Far Eastern Railways headquarters discussed the project to modernise the infrastructure on the Baikal-Amur and Trans-Siberian Main Lines. Summing up a previous conversation, Belozerov announced his intention to hold more meetings on the subject to clarify the project management scheme.

"There are various specifics concerning the financing this year, as the money is going through an unconventional channel, including funds from the National Welfare Fund, and various technical issues are preventing us from working to the maximum. I think that within 3-4 weeks, we will resolve these issues within the Company and ask the government to take a series of decisions that will help us to carry out the construction work promptly."
