RU EN

On 4 September 2015, the 5,000th private car was carried from Moscow to Adler on a specialised rail car transporter which formed part of train number 102.

The rail car transporter service was launched in November 2012 and has witnessed a rapid increase in demand. In 2013, 744 cars were carried, but in 2014, the number nearly trebled to 1,992. In the 8 months to the end of August 2015, the number of tickets bought for car transportation increased by 1.6 times compared to the same period last year. This figure is already 16% above the figure for the whole of 2014, which amounted to more than 2,300 cars.

The 5,000th "jubilee" passenger, Vasily Meleschenko, was congratulated by Mikhail Akulov, Vice-President of Russian Railways and Managing Director of the Federal Passenger Company.

"We congratulate and thank all our passengers for choosing our service to transport your private cars on our rail car transporters", said Mikhail Akulov.

In turn, Vasily Meleschenko thanked the Federal Passenger Company for providing the service and stressed that carrying private cars on rail car transporters makes the trip from Moscow to Sochi more comfortable and convenient.

Mikhail Akulov also spoke about the prospects for developing car transport services using rail car transporters and said that in 2015-2016, it was planned to organise the transport of cars on the Moscow - Kazan and St. Petersburg - Vorkuta routes, and also as part of the double-decker train on the Moscow - Adler link.

In addition, Akulov said that at present, the Federal Passenger Company, together with the Tver Carriage Works, is designing double-decker rail car transporters with increased capacity.

Today, 8 rail car transporters are currently in service on the routes between Moscow - Helsinki, Moscow - St. Petersburg, Moscow - Adler, Moscow - Petrozavodsk, Moscow - Pskov, Moscow - Astrakhan, St. Petersburg - Adler and St. Petersburg - Astrakhan.

The Federal Passenger Company will soon be upgrading another 5 rail car transporters in order to meet passenger demand on existing routes and expand the service to new regions.

Up to now, the most popular domestic routes for transporting private cars are between Moscow - St. Petersburg, Moscow - Adler and St. Petersburg - Adler.
