Vladimir Yakunin and Samara Region Governor Nikolai Merkushin sign cooperation agreement
The Government of the Samara region and Russian Railways signed a cooperation agreement in the field of railway transport from 2015-2018 at a signing ceremony in Samara on 2 August 2015.
"This signed agreement cements our understanding of the development of railway transport in the region for the benefit of citizens and takes into account the World Cup in 2018. In addition, we look forward to receiving the active support of the Samara region's leaders to ensure transport safety, especially at level crossings. As you know, this problem has become extremely acute in recent years due to motorist behaviour," said Vladimir Yakunin, President of Russian Railways, at the ceremony.
As part of the document, the years between 2015-2018 take into account obligations of the two parties to ensure the stable and safe operation of rail transport, the development of suburban commuter rail traffic with a view to improving the quality of services, the optimisation of the use and development of transport infrastructure and the improvement of labour conditions and employees' holidays and rest.
An important agreement in the framework of the document was the decision to establish transport hubs in the region and implement the project "Urban Commuter Train" as part of the preparation of infrastructure for the World Cup 2018.
"We appreciate our partnership with the Samara region, which has a long history and which produces good results. Even in these economically difficult times, we are also seeing goods being shipped by rail," said the head of the RZD Holding.
For his part, Nikolai Merkushin noted that "the Samara region depends greatly on the stable operation of Russia's railways. Our region is one of the largest shippers and Kuibyshev Railways is a responsible employer and taxpayer. The existence of such an agreement will allow us to further develop our transport infrastructure region for the upcoming World Cup in 2018."
