President of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin sums up operational performance of rail network in first 5 months of 2015
On 5 June 2015, Russian Railways' President Vladimir Yakunin held a conference call, during which he summed up the rail network's operational performance in May andthe first 5 months of 2015.
Since the beginning of 2015, the rail network has shipped nearly 492 million tons of freight, 1.5% below last year's level. Tariff freight turnover in January-May fell by 0.4% compared to the same period last year and by 0.9% taking into account empty wagon runs.
The average daily loading volume in May 2015 amounted to 3,221,000 tons, 3.2% less than in May 2014.
The largest decline in loading was recorded for building materials, which were down by 15.9%, cement, which fell by 15.5%, petroleum products, down 2.4%, industrial raw materials, down 13%, and iron ore, which saw a fall of 2.3%.
At the same time, the loading volume of coal increased by 4.2%, fertilisers by 5.2%, non-ferrous ores by 5.8% and fluxing agents by 6.4%.
The President of Russian Railways urged the management of the Company's structural units to mobilise efforts to attract freight traffic and to ensure the unconditional implementation of quality transport indicators.
At the same time, the average route speed of loaded trains in May 2015 amounted to 631 km/day, 13.3% more than in May 2014.
In addition, the route speed of container trains in May 2015 increased by 3% and reached 882 km/day. As part of the project "Trans-Siberian in 7 days", the route speed reached 1,123 km/day, a rise of 6.5% compared to May last year.
The performance at sorting stations also improved. Standing times for transit wagons undergoing processing was reduced by 1.7 hours, a reduction of 13%, and by 0.4 hours or 14% without processing, resulting in standing time of 2.5 hours.
Yakunin said that in January-May 2015 the targets for key quality indicators regarding rolling stock had been met, including the average weight of freight trains, the average locomotive performance and the block speed per section.
