President of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin opens jubilee X International Railway Business Forum "Strategic Partnership 1520"
The X International Railway Business Forum "Strategic Partnership 1520" began in Sochi on 4 June 2015. This year's event was attended by 1,400 experts from more than 30 countries.
The Russian Railways' delegation to the Forum was headed by Company President Vladimir Yakunin.
The head of Russian Railways delivered a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Forum's participants. According to Putin, in recent years, the Forum "Strategic Partnership 1520" had consolidated its position as a significant event in the international business calendar and a platform for wide-ranging discussions of the urgent problems facing the railway complex and for making the better-informed decisions which will determine the priorities for the industry's development for years to come.
"I would like to note the important integrative role of your traditional meetings, which are aimed at bringing closer the participants in the transport market across the 1520 space and their colleagues from other countries, implementing joint projects to improve transport infrastructure and modern rolling stock and promoting advanced transport and logistics services," said Russian President Vladimir Putin in his message to the forum participants.
The Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev also sent a message to the Forum, which was read by Russia's Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov.
Medvedev said that the "Strategic Partnership 1520" Forum was in essence a major industry event and one of the largest meetings of representatives from the professional community in Eurasia. In his welcoming address to Forum's participants, the Russian Prime Minister said that nowadays, the search for new reserves of growth must be undertaken more actively than ever and unconventional decisions made that will facilitate the introduction of advanced technologies, attract private investment and, of course, improve the quality of passenger service and the security of all kinds transport.
Speaking at the opening of the jubilee X International Business Forum Strategic Partnership 1520, the President of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin said that the participants have long since been arriving from far beyond the borders of the of 1520 mm broad gauge track.
"At today's Forum there are 345 companies from nearly 30 countries around the world, including leading representatives from the transport sector in Russia, the CIS, the EU and the Asia-Pacific region: national shipping companies, rolling stock operators, railway equipment manufacturers and logistics, leasing, insurance and forwarding companies," said Yakunin.
"Since 2010, the value of all the agreements signed at the Forum has exceeded 430 billion roubles. Last year, 13 contracts worth over 140 billion roubles were signed. I am sure that this year we will not only sign new contracts, but also define the strategic directions for developing the railway business."
According to the President of Russian Railways, the globalisation and integration processes that are now taking place mean that the priority is to create an infrastructure and logistics base for the development of regional economic cooperation and the expansion of trade flows.
"The Forum's agenda points us towards the search for new ideas to grow the industry. We are putting the emphasis on key business areas: engineering, transportation, logistics and infrastructure," said Vladimir Yakunin.
