Russian Railways' network loaded 99.9 m tons in May 2015

According to the latest figures, loading on the network of Russian Railways in May 2015 amounted to 99.9 m tons, 3.2% less than in May 2014.

Freight turnover in May 2015 fell to 189.6 billion tariff ton-km compared to May 2014, a decline of 1.1%. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs decreased by 1.8% to 243.5 billion ton-km.

According to the latest figures, loading volumes for January-May 2015 amounted to 491.6 m tons, 1.5% less than during the same period in 2014.

The network carried the following goods. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January-May 2014:

  • coal – 131.5 m tons (+4.1%);
  • coke – 4.7 m tons (-1.4%);
  • crude oil and petroleum products – 106.8 m tons (-0.7%);
  • iron and manganese ores  – 45.3 m tons (+1.8%);
  • ferrous metals – 30.5 m tons (+3.9%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 5.8 m tons (+3.6%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers  – 21.3 m tons (+0.3%);
  • cement – 10.4 m tons (-14.2%);
  • timber – 17.1 m tons (+1.5%);
  • grain and milled products – 6.8 m tons (+9.7%);
  • construction materials – 45.4 m tons (-20.4%);
  • non-ferrous ores and raw sulphur – 8.3 m tons (+3.4%);
  • chemicals and soda – 10.5 m tons (-4%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 13.5 m tons (-2.8%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2015 amounted to 938.3 billion tariff ton-kilometers, a fall of 0.4%. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs fell to 1,206.8 billion ton-kilometers, a decline of 0.9%.
