Russian Railways and Vossloh sign memorandum on cooperation to implement and localise production in Russia of high-speed railway

RU EN

Valentin Gapanovich, Senior Vice President at Russian Railways, and Volker Schenk, Member of the Board at Vossloh AG in Germany, have signed a memorandum of cooperation between the two companies.

The signing took place at the X International Railway Business Forum "Strategic Partnership 1520" in Sochi on 4 June 2015.

"We already have links with Vossloh due to the project to install Russia's first track switch for heavy traffic at the Orekhovo-Moscow railway station. We have obtained good results from the track switch under operational conditions," said Valentin Gapanovich.

In 2014, Russian Railways, together with Vossloh, initiated tests of the track switches for heavy traffic at the Orekhovo-Zyevo station. The track switches are designed to handle the passage of freight wagons with an axle load of 27 tons and can take 500 million gross tons, which is 1.5 times more than their Russian counterparts. According to Gapanovich, further collaboration will focus on the use of these parts of the railway track for high-speed traffic.

According to the memorandum, the two companies will jointly examine the prospects for developing rail maintenance services to extend the life of rails, including milling and grinding (including the use of high-speed rail-grinding trains).

Russian Railways is planning to develop new Russian standards and requirements for rail fastening assemblies and their components for high-speed rail transport.

"The experience of Vossloh operations in the European market, including in the field of high-speed traffic, will enable us to establish a technological foundation for high-speed rail projects in Russia," said the Senior Vice-President of Russian Railways.
