RZD and Siemens sign contract to supply 54 commuter trains.

By the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Siemens will supply Russian Railways with 54 Desiro commuter trains worth about EUR580 million and capable of speeds up to 160 kmph.

The trains will transport Olympics participants and spectators from the airport and train station to venues and between Tuapse and Adler. They are expected to come into service in autumn 2013.

The first 38 Desiro trains will be manufactured at the Siemens’ plant in Krefeld, Germany, while the remaining 16 trains will be partially manufactured in Russia.
