New Novokhokhlovskaya stop opens in Moscow
On 6 September 2018, the Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin and the Deputy Managing Director of Russian Railways Oleg Toni opened a new passenger stop along the Kursk direction of Moscow Railways.
The new stop, Novokhokhlovskaya, allows passengers to transfer to the station of the same name on the Moscow Central Ring (MCR) in a matter of minutes and discover new convenient routes.
"Together with Russian Railways, we are building new passenger platforms to enable passengers to change from the radial directions of the railway to the MSR and the underground. The new Novokhokhlovskaya platform will make for convenient changes to the MCR for hundreds of thousands of Muscovites who live in Shcherbinka, Butovo, Pechatnikov, Tekstilshchikov and many other parts of the capital. Moreover, the underground stations Tsaritsyno, Kurskaya, Tekstilshchiki and a number of others will have less passengers, so there will be much more room," said Sergei Sobyanin.
As Oleg Toni noted, by the end of the year it is planned to complete the integration of the MCR with three other directions of Moscow Railways: Riga, Paveletsky and Gorky, followed by Yaroslavl in 2019.
Toni added that the new Novokhokhlovskaya stop was the first installment of the Moscow Central Diameters 2 project and that the new Okruzhnaya platform, where the pavilion was opened on 6 September and the Aeroexpress trains began to make stops, was the first within the framework of the MCD 1 project.
In addition, there are plans to start the phased launch of additional suburban trains between Tsaritsyno and Podolsk stations from 10 September. This has become possible due to the reconstruction of the stretch between the two stations and a change in the function of the third and fourth main tracks on the line.
Suburban trains began to stop at Novokhokhlovskaya from 10:00 on 6 September.
Previously, passengers travelling along the Kursk direction of Moscow Railways could not make a convenient change to the MCR, but instead had to travel more than 1.5 km from the Kalitnika platform.
Now, passengers can change in several minutes, with the change organised according to the principle of "Dry Feet." People living in Moscow and the Moscow region now have alternative routes that will reduce their journey in terms of both distance and time.
The new Novokhohlovskaya stop includes an island passenger platform and concourse (covered pedestrian bridge) which enables passengers to cross the railway line. A modern passenger infrastructure with a barrier-free environment for low-mobility passengers has been installed with two lifts, four escalators, tactile tiles and a ticket desk with a low counter for passengers in a wheelchair. Passengers remain dry during the rain by virtue of the canopy built over the entire platform.
To handle the stops of the suburban trains, Russian Railways has built a new track section of more than two kilometres with the attendant engineering networks and communications.
The next stage of construction on this stretch will be the laying of two additional main tracks that will increase the through capacity and enable the launch of additional suburban trains.
The Novokhokhlovskaya stop was built as part of the programme of Russian Railways and the Moscow city government to integrate the radial directions of railways with the MCR.
At the moment, work is continuing on improving the link between the MCR and Paveletsky by constructing a new stopping point called Varshavskaya near the Verkhny Kotly, Riga by transferring Leningrad to Streshnevo, Yaroslavl by moving the Severyanin platform to Rostokino and Gorkovsky by moving Karacharovo to Nizhny Novgorod on Moscow Railways.
Before that, Russian Railway built and opened an underground passage to create a convenient changer between the Frazer platform in the Kazan direction and Andronovka on the MCR and in addition commissioned a new platform called Okruzhnaya on the Savelovo direction to integrate it with the station of the same name on the Circle line.
