GEFCO dispatches first container train from China to France

RU EN

The logistics company GEFCO, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, has organised the first run of a container train with a full load from China to France.

The train delivered 40-foot containers for the French automotive concern Groupe PSA/Peugeot Citroën Automobiles from Wuhan in China to Durge in the north of France, a distance of 11,000 km.

The train departed from Wuhan on 3 November 2017 and crossed Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus.

After passing through customs, the goods were delivered directly to PSA’s subsidiary factory Française de Mécanique in Douvrin in the north of France.

On part of the route the train ran on the broad gauge 1520 mm track from Dostyk station in Kazakhstan to Brest station in Belarus and was operated by JSC United Transport and Logistics Company, a subsidiary of OJSC Russian Railways. It then proceeded through Poland and Germany before arriving at the terminal in the town of Dourges in France on 22 November 2017.

The dispatch of this first container train took place within the framework of the Chinese initiative "One Belt, One Road, which is aimed at taking advantage of the advantages provided by the New Silk Road route connecting China and Europe.
