Oleg Belozerov, the President of Russian Railways, took part in the Summit of the Heads of European Railways, which was held in the Czech capital Prague on 7 July 2017.

The participants discussed the development and common problems of Europe's railway market.

Russian Railways pays much attention to cooperation with foreign railway companies in the field of transport security.

The Company works in particular, within the framework of the joint work in COLPOFER, the international organisation for police and railway safety cooperation, as well as within the framework of the Platform for Security against Acts of Unlawful Interference of the International Union of Railways.

The RZD Holding is carrying out systemic work on the compliance of ecological safety on Russia's railways. It is investing significant funds in the construction and reconstruction of environmental facilities and introducing corporate "green" standards.

The Company has achieved significant results on the environmental front. It has, for example reduced emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere from stationary sources by 55%, greenhouse gases by 19.2%, water consumption by 47.1% and discharges of contaminated sewage into water bodies by 85%.

During the summit, another topic for discussion was the issue of managing personal data on passenger rail transport.

At the present, the Russian Railways Holding processes the data of more than 100 million passengers on long distance trains, including on international services, and their number is constantly increasing.

The Company carries out centralised expert analyses and control over the development of information systems which process personal data.

The Company also monitors and analyses on an ongoing basis the national normative documents of other countries in the former Soviet Union and the so-called "far abroad" which cover the processing and protection of the personal data of individuals in the field of processing and protecting data and assesses risks arising in the processing and protection of the personal data of individuals from other countries.

The summit participants greatly appreciated the dynamic developments in European law on personal data protection.

It was stressed that the General Data Protection Regulation, which is scheduled to be implemented in May 2018, will be a major step towards a single digital market.

Oleg Belozerov also held a number of working meetings on the sidelines of the summit.
