"Container delivery speeds in transit traffic in Eastern Russia have increased by more than 30% since 2012," says President of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov

A Russian Railways' delegation headed by Company President Oleg Belozerov is taking part in the XXV Plenary Session of the international association, the Coordinating Council on Trans-Siberian Transportation (CCTST)

The session is being held in the Mongolian capital Ulan-Bator on 14-15 September 2016 and is being attended by 180 representatives from 18 countries, including the heads and authorised representatives from government transportation departments and railway companies, seaports and shipping, operating, insurance and IT companies, as well as national and international transport and forwarding associations.

The meeting will address the operation of the Trans-Siberian Transport Corridor, the harmonisation of legal regulations on international transportation and ways to improve the efficiency of container transportation between the countries of Europe, the Baltic, Central Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.

"Thanks to the active work of the CCTST's members, the Trans-Siberian's competitiveness as a transit bridge linking the Asia-Pacific region and Europe is increasing. Particularly pleasing is that many of those present, including our foreign colleagues and partners, consider the CCTST as one of the key areas for strengthening business relations," said Oleg Belozerov in his welcoming speech to the session.

According to the Company President, in recent years Russian Railways has seriously improved the infrastructure performance of rail transport corridors. Since 2012, delivery speeds for container shipments in transit traffic in Eastern Russia, including routes to China, have increased by more than 30% to 783.2 km per day.

"We offer convenient transit routes with the minimum number of national border crossings, a common legal space and a simplified freight declaration system. At a time when delivery times for the transoceanic routes through the Suez Canal are between 30 and 40 days, the Trans-Siberian allows shippers to get the same goods from China in Europe in just 14 to 17 days," said Oleg Belozerov.

The President of Russian Railways also met with Li Hezhong, Chairman of the Yingkou Port Group Corporation, in Ulan Bator on 14 September 2016.

The two company heads noted the significant growth in traffic involving Yingkou Port. Nearly 18,000 twenty-foot equivalent (TEU) containers from Yingkou have passed through the Manzhouli - Zabaykalsk border crossing en route for Russia, Belarus and the countries of Europe in the 8 months of 2016 to date, which is almost twice as much as during the same period last year.

The two partners also discussed the prospects for cooperation in the development of transit traffic between China and Europe using the infrastructure of Russian Railways, including the creation of the Bely Rast joint logistics centre in the Moscow region, as well as the prospects for implementing joint transport and logistics projects in third countries.
