Loading volumes on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 1% in October

According to the latest figures, loading volumes on the network owned by Russian Railways amounted to 109.5 million tons in October 2019, 1% more than in the same month last year.

Freight turnover in October 2019 decreased by 0.2% compared to October 2018 and amounted to 222 billion ton-km tariffs. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagons runs during the same month decreased by 0.7% and fell to 281.7 billion ton-km.

According to the latest figures, loading volumes from January to October 2019 amounted to 1.066 billion tons, 0.7% less than in the same period last year.

The railways loaded the following items during January-October 2019. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January-October 2018:

  • coal - 309.1 million tons (-0.5%);
  • coke - 9 million tons (-2.6%);
  • oil and petroleum products - 191.6 million tons (-2%);
  • iron and manganese ore - 99.9 million tons (3.7%);
  • ferrous metals - 61.3 million tons (-5.7%);
  • ferrous metal scrap - 12.7 million tons (-4.2%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers - 50.5 million tons (3.2%);
  • cement - 23.2 million tons (5.1%);
  • timber - 35.5 million tons (-7.4%);
  • grain - 17.1 million tons (-23.5%);
  • construction materials - 106.1 million tons (0.1%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphurous raw materials - 16.4 million tons (-3%);
  • chemicals and soda - 21.6 million tons (-1.1%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials - 29.7 million tons of ( 0.4%).

In the period from January to October 2019, freight turnover was 2,169.1 billion ton-km, an increase of 0.8%. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs amounted to 2,756.6 billion ton-km, up by 0.7%.
