Loading volumes on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 0.5% in March 2019

 

 

According to the latest figures, loading volumes on the network owned by Russian Railways amounted to 113.3 million tons in March 2019, 0.5% more than during March last year.

Freight turnover in March 2019 increased compared to the same month last year by 3% and amounted to 231.3 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs in March this year increased by 3.1% and amounted to 294.9 billion ton-km.

According to the latest figures, total loading from January to March 2019 amounted to 318.7 million tons, 0.7% more than during the first quarter last year.

The railways shipped the following categories of freight during the first quarter of 2019. Figures in brackets show the percentage changed compared to the first three months of 2018:

coal – 97.1 million tons (+2.3%);

coke – 2.83 million tons (+3%);

oil and petroleum products – 60.6 million tons (+0.8%);

iron and manganese ores – 29.3 million tons (+7.7%);

ferrous metals – 19.4 million tons (-1.7%);

ferrous metal scrap – 2.8 million tons (12.3%);

chemical and mineral fertilisers – 15.5 million tons (+1.4%);

cement – 4.6 million tons (+2.3%);

timber – 11 million tons (-3.2%);

grain – 6.04 million tons (-15.4%);

construction materials – 27.2 million tons (-5.3%);

non-ferrous ores and sulphur raw materials – 4.6 million tons (-3.1%);

chemicals and soda – 6.6 million tons (-3%);

industrial feedstock and moulded materials– 7.9 million tons (-4.8%).

In the first quarter of 2019, freight turnover amounted to 651.8 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 2.4% compared to the first quarter of 2018. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs rose to 832.3 billion ton-kilometres, an increase of 2.5%.
