Head of Russian Railways and Deputy Chairman of Vietnamese government discuss project to build light-rail line in Ho Chi Minh City

The CEO and Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, Oleg Belozerov, has met with the Deputy Chairman of the Government of Vietnam, Trịnh Đình Dũng.

The two men discussed prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation, including infrastructure projects, transportation and logistics etc.

In particular, the two parties agreed about the need for the further development of container traffic between Russia and Vietnam.

They also focused attention on the Tantao - Lindong light rail project in Ho Chi Minh City, which has a branch line to the Long Than International Airport in the province of Dong Nai. The airport is currently under construction and is planned to become the largest in the country.

On 5 September 2018, RZD International LLC and a group of Vietnamese investors led by the Lung Lo Construction Corporation signed a partnership agreement during the design and project stage for the light-rail project.

In accordance with the agreement, RZD International LLC will provide expert support on the project and prepare a feasibility study for the line’s construction.

"The importance of cooperation with Vietnamese companies has been noted repeatedly at intergovernmental level and we regard this project as very promising," said Oleg Belozerov.

"Vietnam is interested in the development of the railway system in order to improve the quality of our infrastructure and thus increase the competitiveness of our economy," said the Deputy Chairman of the Vietnamese government.

Mr. Trịnh Đình Dũng added that he considers it important to build a light metro line in view of the country’s growing population and the increasing pressure on the nation’s transport infrastructure.
