Russian Railways considering implementing new BRICS projects

A delegation of Russian Railways, led by the Company’s CEO and Chairman Oleg Belozerov, is taking part in the X BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. Top of Form

At the summit, the heads of state from the five countries discussed at length the main results of the work of the BRICS Business Council, which formed the basis for the annual report.

The CEO of Russian Railways is one of five Russian representatives on the Business Council and coordinates logistics and infrastructure development issues.

The report focused on key project initiatives that received support from the five countries, including Russian Railways’ projects to create the Eurasia high-speed freight and passenger railway corridor and joint work with Indian Railways to increase the speed of traffic, as well as promising initiatives in South Africa, Africa and Latin America.

In addition, the head of Russian Railways took part in a number of bilateral meetings between Russian President Vladimir Putin and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the Argentinean President Mauricio Macri and Chinese President Xi Jinping. In the context of the developing economic partnership, special attention was paid to transport accessibility and the creation of an effective railway infrastructure.

During the events at the summit, Russian Railways and the state-owned company Transnet from South Africa, which owns and manages railway infrastructure, signed a joint statement on the development of cooperation in the field of railway transport. The document lists the main areas of cooperation, including the development of infrastructure, consulting in the field of passenger and freight communications, innovation and research, the integration of railway and port infrastructure and training.

In addition, Alexander Misharin, First Deputy Managing Director of Russian Railways, spoke at the session "Development of BRICS Investments in the Field of Infrastructure, Natural Resources, Agriculture, Ecology and the Blue Economy" of the BRICS Business Forum.

The Company"s projects in the field of logistics, the formation of high-speed rail communication and infrastructure development were greeted with significant interest among the audience.
